World Vaccine Day may have come and gone, but sign up and connect as we are making plans for next year!
This day was selected because on May 14, 1796, Dr. Edward Jenner took fluid from a cowpox blister and scratched it into the skin of James Phipps, an eight-year-old boy. A single blister rose up on the spot, but James soon recovered. On July 1, Jenner inoculated the boy again, this time with smallpox matter, and no disease developed. This 1st vaccine was a success and we celebrate that milestone on World Vaccine Day, annually.
This is the one day when people around the globe celebrate the virtues and benefits of vaccines, open their offices, labs, research centers and shops for tours (both virtual and physical), discuss new technologies, and work to include vaccines in legislation at the local, regional, national and international levels.
World Vaccine Day aims to raise awareness of the many positive contributions that vaccines make to our society. World Vaccine Day celebrates the people that discover, fabricate, design, build, manufacture and support the broad range of technologies that create and deliver vaccines, worldwide.
Events are held worldwide and not in a central location with each group, company or association celebrating in their own region in their own manner.
